No matter how you choose to use it, a business requirement any more, is a website.  An online presence for your business.  It's as essential as a listing in the Yellow Pages.

When customers can't find your site, or they find out you don't have one, they either don't realize you exist, or think you're not a serious business.

Once again, just as with graphic design, you have time issues and budgetary requirements that must be met.  You may also have in your mind an idea already for a general direction for your site ... and if you don't, you need to find a designer who can understand you and your business and provide you with ideas until a final composition is agreed upon and you're happy!

You may also need someone who can best advise you on standards and user experiences on the web, to better your chances of making that best first impression that's so important.
